Environmental, social and governance (ESG)

Queensland's resources industry has always operated within systems and laws that are designed to recognise our state’s unique natural qualities, heritage, communities and the needs of industries. As a result, our resources industry has a strong economic and community legacy.

The Queensland Government's robust regulatory frameworks provide a solid foundation for resources companies to establish strong corporate and social governance practices, which can be used to demonstrate their own environmental, social and governance (ESG) credentials.

As intelligence of our world improves and global expectations increase, so does our response. Australia and Queensland continue to review laws, find efficiencies, improve the integrity of partnerships between all stakeholders, and investigate better ways to find, mine, repurpose and re-use our critical minerals.

Our past actions and future commitments ensure resource companies and investors can confidently mitigate their investment risks and know that opportunities are abundant.

How we strengthen our ESG foundations

Environmental

  • Legislated renewable energy and emission reduction targets.

Social

  • Ensuring strong and genuine First Nations partnerships.
  • Protecting the current workforce and building a safe and resilient future workforce.
  • Fostering coexistence and sustainable communities.

Governance

  • Improving regulatory efficiency.
  • Growing and diversifying the resources industry.

In each area, we prioritise a place-based approach for critical minerals project development.

Green price premium

A real world example of how we are strengthening our ESG foundations in by decarbonsing the state's electricity system. Our legislated renewable energy target and investment in infrastructure means that projects connected to Queensland's energy grid will be ready to demand a green price premium, at no cost to the operator.
